Root canal treatment

The endodontic treatment process

Root canal treatment or endodontic treatment is the procedure used to treat problems inside a tooth when the pulp—the "nerve" of the tooth—is inflamed or has died. Inflammation can be caused by deep decay, fracture, or injury, causing pain, sensitivity, or even abscess. The purpose of root canal treatment is to eliminate the infection and preserve the natural tooth, avoiding extraction.

How this is accomplished

During treatment, the dentist carefully removes the inflamed or dead pulp, cleans and disinfects the inside of the root canal, and then fills and seals it with a special biocompatible material. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, is painless, and is usually completed in one or two sessions, depending on the difficulty of the case.

The day after treatment

After root canal treatment, the tooth remains in the mouth and functions normally, just like the rest. In some cases, a crown is recommended for extra protection and long-term durability. Endodontic treatment is a safe and effective way to preserve natural teeth and eliminate pain, providing relief and stability to your smile.
